We expected the canyon trip to be the exact opposite of what it truly was, but, nevertheless, what it was will always be remembered, for the emotional part of the trip, not just the physical aspect, was completely endured, but not without the expected bitching to and fro.
I, personally, will never fly again across this country of ours, filled with every type of scenery imaginable, from oak tress and rolling gentle Minnesota hillsides-accompanied by cool sweet air, to the Rocky Mountains-the earth’s own masterpiece in environmental sculpture, to the arid deserts of New Mexico-the sagebrush and cacti of Arizona. And at last-the Grand Canyon, the last natural wonder, a painting, a classical piece of art. There is a saying; “the land is like a canvas, which nature embroiders,” and we found this adage true.
From bussing to backpacking, we took it all in, the men, again proving their strength and physical endurance, we women keeping up all the while, never pointing it out, just bitchin’ and truckin.’ We all put up with each other quite well, remarkably. But then- ever see a chick make a guy cry uncle?
Thanks to all who made it possible, from all of us. You too, Mom and Dad.
