By Doug Berg
On March 20th, the first Mini-School reunion took place at the Hopkins Legion Club. The roll call included such names as Vomhof, Gersich, Hardy, Anderson (Clay), Fuss, Politte, Quast, Seamens, Jensen, Cameron, Gallagher, Morris, Snyder, McLane, Anderberg, Kaufenberg, Kohman, Anderson (Lonnie and D.G.), Keeler, Force, Razidlo, Hegrenes, and Eiden—and nothing happened!! There was not a great deal of public drunkeness, there were no fights, robberies, rapes, or (contrary to the suspicions of the Hopkins police) no underage drinking. There was a great deal of music (thanks to Andy Fuss), fun, dancing, and reminiscing.
The first two classes (70-71) were well represented, and that was as it should be as many of those kids have gone on to different places and it was really a treat for them to get together again. Many canoe trips were rehashed, a number of Grand Canyon trips were relived, and it was even suggested that we should have scheduled a rec period and a talent show into the evening. The biggest mistake of the evening was made by Doug Berg-—he tried to get serious once!
$240.00 was gladly donated by those in attendance for the current Mini-School Program and many people expressed that they felt the $1.50 admission was too cheap-—that they would be happy giving much more. It was an evening of pride in the Mini-School Program, camaraderie, and warm feelings. As many in attendance said, we must do it again and this time let’s not wait five years. Maybe next year. Maybe in two or three years. We would be interested in hearing from Mini-School alumni about when you would like to do it again.
Anyway, a hearty thank you is in order to those who helped plan and organize the evening—most notably Patty Politte (who took responsibility) and the following: Dave Force, Andy Fuss, Mary Kaufenberg, Stewart Hanson, and Scott Olson. And a thank you to everyone who came. As we on the staff have always said, Mini-School is only as successful as its students. It was great seeing you.
