Winter Trek Post

The week of the cross country ski trip was one of trial and error. Out of the eleven people on the trip, three of us had never been on skis before. The trip started on March 13th and ended the 17th. We arrived at Wolf Lake Refuge at 1:17 p.m. in the snowmobile parking lot. We then proceeded to ski to the cabin where we stayed for the first night. The skiing was by far the most tiring.

Just for your information, the people on the trip were: Steve LePage, Gail Logelin, Betty Pfiffner, Roger Ruther, Lynn Sevey, Andy Korn, Brett Otterson, Doug, Randy, Nick, and two guides, Tom and Dave.

We skied everyday about 5—7 miles. Betty Pfiffner’s main contribution was jolly complaints and bitches. For the three nights we slept out we had 2 tents and 3 snow shelters. We stayed at the same campsite for the 3 nights. On the second day, we split up into 2 groups. Half went to a settlement that was over 100 years old. The other group headed out towards a lake but never made it. The 3rd day was solitude day where everybody went out skiing by themselves for 3-5 hours. All in all, it was a great experience.
