Last Thursday, December 9, Mini-School tried something new. At a meeting a week or so beforehand, we had a meeting to vote holding classes Thursday night from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m. instead of regular classes on Friday. Everyone agreed.
When the time came to do it some students seemed uneasy to do it, but then agreed. When I arrived at MHS that night, I was surprised to see how good the outcome was. I think everyone was there— in a sense there. All the teachers were there and some old Mini-School students. To name one, Guy Chaney. He brought a home movie he had made six years ago at Clear Springs Elementary with John Eiden’s 6th grade class. It was great. In another room there was T.V. to be watched (Alfred Hitchcock and Channel 2). Nick’s room was open to work on the Christmas tree and puzzles and games. The gym was also open and I think some people played broomball on the rink.
The first fifteen minutes of the night went good. People seemed to come and go, mainly come at first. Then slowly people started to disappear, wandering around in the halls and just doing nothing and sitting in the lunchroom. I’m sure the Mini-School teachers are very disappointed about what happened. So am I. I think things should have been more organized to keep the students busy and in school and not wandering around. Maybe something else can be thought up to do like this next time. It started out good and ended not so good.
