A Movie Review by Anthony R. Cruikshank
Do you like James Bond films? Do you like spoof films? Two great tastes that taste great together. Austin Powers, the groovy swinging British agent of the 60’s, is played by Mike Myers. Austin Powers is a combination of a bad British rock star, James Bond, and Gingivitis. (Special side note: Austin Powers’ frightening chest hair is an exact match to Sean Connery’s Bond in Dr. No. I mean I love Sean Connery, he is the greatest Bond ever but, the man will never be photographed with big foot, if you know what I mean.) Dr. Evil, the “bad” guy, is also played by Mike Myers.
Dr. Evil narrowly escapes Powers by freezing himself and then rockets into outer space. Powers volunteers to be frozen in order to be able to thwart Dr. Evil when he returns. Although Dr. Evil and Austin run into a few problems when they return from deep freeze. “one million dollars” is no longer an unattainable ransom. A “shag” is no longer “just a shag, baby.” Wackiness ensues. Mike Myers does what he does best, be himself. And if you don’t have any plans I suggest you go see it.
