On Tuesday September 30th, Doug Berg, Ann Kohman, Charlie Urbia, Josh Shoberg and I went up to where Doug’s old cabin was. He is using his neighbor’s cabin for the Mark Warren trip. We went to cut wood for the sweat lodge. Before we went there we had to fill up our stomachs at the hotel restaurant in Rush city. We went across the street and got food for lunch. Annie found some cookies. She wasn’t planning on sharing them either.
As we were on the way up the drive way Doug stopped and picked up his chainsaw and went crazy sawing everything in sight. I knew what to expect. I went along with him last year too. Once we finally filled up the trailer we brought the canoes to the boat launch and loaded them up with wood. Annie and I canoed together and Charlie and Josh paddled together. We dropped the wood off at the Island and found dead trees all over the island so we spent some more time following Doug around as he cut down the trees. After we cut down every piece of wood there we paddled across the river and filled one and a half canoes full of wood. We finally completed our mission.
We canoed back to the boat launch up stream on a river that is about one foot deep. Not too easy. We made it back to the boat launch ready for lunch. We had our peanut butter sandwiches, chips and Annie’s cookies. The drive home was a long one. Everyone crashed out right away except for me and Doug.
Of course we got units for the trip so it’s always worth it when units are involved.
