On October 8th, I went to First Avenue to see Southern Culture On the Skids. I had heard them on Jay Leno one summer night, and bought their album. They play hillbilly alternative (stuff about fried chicken and flies).
The opening band was the Magnatones. They played alternative music, and were pretty good. They played for 30-40 minutes. When they finished, they got off stage and talked to people. There was about a 45 minute intermission before S.C.O.T.S came out.
During this time I played X-men: Children of the Atom, while my friend picked up on two girls.
Finally Southern Culture On The Skids came out. The lead singer and also guitar player was wearing overalls, with an old red beat up Chevy hat on. The female Bassist was wearing a dress, with her hair up in a beehive. The drummer played the drums while standing, and smoked a cigar. They talked a little about how great it was to be here, then played songs. During the last 4 or 6 songs, they asked people to join them on stage. So about five did.
The people danced and threw fried chicken around. They played for a little over an hour. All in all it was a good show.
