On Sunday morning, February 7th, at 10:30a.m. we took off for Bessemer, Michigan. We all hopped in the van and drove straight through Duluth, and over to Country Kitchen to eat and fuel up. Then we got to the ‘homestead’ at 4:00p.m.
We all settled in and unpacked. Our pad was pretty chillin’, and the way it was arranged and put together reminded me of the 70’s. So a little later, after everyone was settled in and finished doing the unpacking thing, we all went to see the inside of the lodge. It was all right. We were able to play pool, arcade games, or foosball, and hang around the crazy kids from Chicago. Also we got to go snowshoeing, and that was fun. Later in the evening we had a meeting with Randy.
We all were awakened by Randy in the morning, had breakfast and went skiing or snow boarding. The first day we went to a place called “Blackjack.” The hills were all right, but they were a little icy. And then suddenly Trisha got ill and Randy had to take her to the hospital. Afterwards we went back the homestead to rest our aching bones. We all watched the 60’s show on television, and we were all pretty much interested in it.
The next day we went to “Indianhead” ski resort. It was much more icy then the day before, but by then we were all improving on our skills, so it wasn’t all that bad. In the afternoon Clare claimed that she was sick and had gotten food poisoning, and so was not a ski-bunny that day. Later that night we ate some no-meat spaghetti: very delightful for us vegetarians! Those of us who were sore chilled in the hot tub – otherwise we could write in our journals, nap, chat with Randy, or walk around outside to explore the grounds. The variety was quite nice!
Wednesday, the 4th day, we awoke from our slumber, once again by Randy. We had some breakfast and got ready for the day. The ski resort that we were going to conquer this day was called “Big Powderhorn.” The day started off good, and we all got ready to hit the slopes. As I was riding the chair lift, (and this was the best part,) it was so beautiful, the scenery. There were wonderful woods that were long, with a lot of trees really close together. I felt so free riding through them, inhaling the fresh air deeply, and feelin’ good. The snow was good and fresh, and riding was nice. You could just fly down the slopes. They were the best ones so far. I think that everyone had a good time on this wonderful day, and on the whole trip as well. The 9 of us: Chris Hinrichs, Missy Quaas, Kristina Petron, Sam Maeder, Trish Laumann, Clare Meyer, Jon Schmidt, Elissa Johnson, and Randy will remember it for a long time.
