Well we have to give a little credit to the little critters that accompany us down here in Mini. Silverfish are a cute little bug, with little antennas. They vary from the color white to a dark gray. They come in all sizes, and they are completely harmless.
What are now Mini Silverfish have been around for as long as anyone can remember. Before we moved down the Work Study program was here, and I had talked to Joey Townsend (a teacher of work study) about a little history of the silverfish. Joey told me that the silverfish probably dated back to the start of school, here at Minnetonka.
They were very abundant when Work Study was located here. And they were bigger! The great-great grandaddies of the silverfish we now have, Joey said, used to move the furniture around (I think he’s exaggerating). Mr. Cunningham, Joey said, used to trap them and teach them tricks.
He also told me that the mat room has quite a few silverfish. He gave me some hints on luring the silverfish out of hiding. First you must spit on the floor (they love spit) then go turn off the lights and sit in the room quietly for about five minutes. Then turn them on quick and one can see them scatter all over the floor.
So, Mini Schoolers, when you see those cute little tiny little silverfish running on the floor, think twice before you go and stomp on them. They have been here longer than we have. Plus…. they let us come down here. So be nice.
